A recent Gallup poll shows that more than three in 10 American adults believe they weigh at least 20 pounds more than they should; but even though 90 percent of them want to do something about it, only 48 percent are "seriously trying to lose weight."
The poll also showed the average weight for U.S. men in 2015 was 196, but the respondents considered 183 to be the ideal weight.
For U.S. women, the average weight was 155, but 139 pound was considered ideal.
Among those who reported weight at least 20 pounds more than they should, the average self-reported weight was 213 pounds — 237 for men and 193 for women.
