Have a favorite whiskey cocktail? These might become your new go-tos

With World Whisky Day on the horizon, there's one good reason to pull out your favorite Scotch or other whiskey — it doesn't matter which kind — and a few other choice ingredients to mix with it (unless you prefer your whiskey neat, of course. That's always OK).

Here are two different options: one if you’re more in the mood for a boozy stirred drink, the other for a slightly brighter (but no less boozy) shaken concoction. No matter which one you choose to celebrate with on May 21, you’ll find yourself appreciating the dark aged spirit that much more.

Remember the Maine

2 oz. Michter’s rye whiskey

3/4 oz. Martini & Rossi sweet vermouth

1/2 oz. cherry heering liqueur

1/4 oz. Pernod liqueur

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass. Add ice and stir for about 30 seconds. Strain into chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a brandied cherry.

Whiskey Business

1 1/2 oz. Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey

1 3/4 oz. Glenlivet 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky

3/4 oz. lemon juice

3/4 oz. honey syrup

3 slices of fresh ginger

Using a mixing spoon, muddle the fresh ginger in the bottom of a cocktail shaker until it is well mashed. Add the Jameson, lemon juice and honey syrup and fill shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled, about 20 seconds.

Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Pour the Glenlivet 12 over the back of a bar spoon so that it floats atop the drink.
