Craft beer of the week: Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA

Craft Beer of the Week: Pinner Throwback IPA — an India pale ale that's big on hop aroma and flavor but relatively low in alcohol and bitterness.

Story: Oskar Blues, based in Colorado but with a new brewery in North Carolina, recently added this "session" IPA to its year-round lineup of cans and kegs. Called a session beer because it's low enough in alcohol (4.9 percent by volume) that you can have a few of them in one drinking session without fatiguing your palate or liver, Pinner is unrestrained in its juicy, tropical-citrus hop aromas and flavors.

Oskar Blues, a pioneer in the canned craft beer movement, is better known for its high-gravity, abrasively strong beers than for some of its mellower options like Mama’s Little Yella Pils and the new Pinner. Spend some time with Pinner, and you won’t miss the heavy hitters.

Price: $11 for a six-pack of 12-ounce cans, available at Total Wine & More.
