It’s open season on salt and the shaker is pointed at kids. A recently released study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that about 90 percent of children 6-18 years old eat too much sodium, more than 3,300 milligrams in the form of salt daily, mainly in processed foods. Diets high in sodium, the CDC, says, can lead to high blood pressure, which can lead to other diseases.

The study found that more than 40 percent of the sodium kids get comes from common foods including:

Pizza; bread and rolls

Cold cuts and cured meats

Sandwiches like cheeseburgers

Snacks, such as chips

Chicken patties, nuggets, and tenders.
