I have a teeny tiny room in my home that needed a big, bold touch. Instead of covering the walls in wallpaper, which we know is such a pain to remove, I opted for lovely blue and white watercolor print from my home decor fabric collection, California Dreaming. It has a great linen texture and makes the room feel so rich and cozy. This project is the perfect solution for a dorm room or a rental apartment. Covering a wall in fabric is easy to do —
Gather:
Soap and water
Sponge
Tape measure
Scissors
Fabric
Pushpins
Liquid fabric starch
Bucket
3-inch short bristled paintbrush
X-ACTO knife
Create:
1. Use soap and water to wash the wall you plan to cover.
2. Measure the wall, adding 1 inch to the top and bottom. Cut the fabric to fit. If the fabric is patterned, be sure to line up the motifs.
3. Pour the liquid starch into a bucket.
4. Use your paintbrush to apply starch to the top half of the wall. Smooth the fabric into position from the top down, leaving 1 inch along the top edge to be trimmed later. Hold the fabric in place with pushpins when you begin to apply the bottom half.
5. Using the paintbrush, apply starch to the bottom half of the wall. Smooth the remaining fabric into position, leaving 1 inch at the bottom to be trimmed later.
6. Apply starch to the fabric from the top down with your sponge, removing bubbles and wrinkles as you go. Be sure the fabric is absorbing the starch evenly.
7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for each additional piece of fabric.
8. When fabric is completely dry (about 4 hours), use an X-ACTO knife to carefully trim the overhanging fabric at the top and bottom edges.
I decided to go bold and do all the walls in my little room, but this project is great for creating a beautiful accent wall in any room!
