Greater Piney Grove observes a century of service: The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church will commemorate 100 years with a series of events as the congregation moves into its new sanctuary at 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at 1879 Glenwood Ave. The dedication also will include commissioning for the Frank Jones Memorial Chapel (formerly the old sanctuary). The speaker is the Rev. H. Beecher Hicks Jr. of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. On Aug. 3, the Rev. Michael Benton, senior pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church in Decatur, will preach at the 7:15 a.m. service, followed by the Rev. William W. Homecoming at Bethel UMC: Homecoming weekend at Bethel United Methodist Church will be held Aug. 2-3 in Stockbridge. At 5 p.m. Aug. 2, there will be a "Discover Bethel Cemetery" tour, where visitors can learn about the history of the cemetery. An ice cream social, music and fun will follow the free tour. At 11 a.m. Aug. 3, there will be a homecoming celebration service. The guest preacher is the Rev. Judson "Jay" Hodges. Bring a covered dish for a fellowship dinner after the service. The Rev. Fred B. Craddock at 17th annual Higher Ground Camp Meeting: The Rev. Fred B. Craddock, a world-renowned preacher, author and scholar, will preach during the Meridian Herald's 17th annual Higher Ground Camp Meeting, which will be held Aug. 16 on the grounds of Epworth United Methodist Church, 585 Madola Road in Epworth. Also performing are the Turner Sisters, the Cantabile Strings of Epworth Valley, the Meridian Chorale and Leah Calvert and Tommy Sauter. Fun at Living Hope: Family Fun Fest 2014 will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16 at Living Hope Church and Open Arms Christian Child Development Center, 3450 Stilesboro Road in Kennesaw.
