Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will host a huge STEM expo Saturday, with girls getting a chance to take part in a crime scene investigation, learn about the physics behind remote control cars, and ride an actual hovercraft.
The hovercraft is more like a hoverboard (think Marty McFly in Back to the Future). The Girl Scouts version is it’s DIY with everyday materials like plywood or skateboards and an air source like a leaf blower. By shaping the board and cutting holes to accommodate the air source, the board “floats” allowing the rider to move about the floor. There will be a contained area for girls to not only ride the hovercraft but and also learn about what makes a hoverboard work - the physics, velocity, etc.
And the crime solving activities will do hair analysis and other forensics to solve the mystery of who stole the Girl Scout cookies.
The festival is open to all girls, not just Girl Scouts. About 2,500 people are expected to attend.
Here are more details on the event:
WHO: Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will host a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Expo to engage girls in hands-on opportunities exploring engineering, computer science, and the physical sciences.
