BeltLine Walls Festival invites Atlanta families to help create mural

Atlanta is full of great public art and murals — and now ARTlanta Gallery is inviting families to help put up the latest, along the Beltline's Northeast Trail on Sunday, August 4.

Muralists have been working along former railroad tracks near Mason Fine Art on Mayson Street NE in preparation for the festival. The Family Paint Day will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, with Shambe Badila as the lead artist.

"People of all ages, and our nearest neighbors, are invited to join us in the creation of a mural along the Atlanta BeltLine," the group said on Facebook. "The BeltLine is for everyone, and we want all of our communities to have a hand in beautifying our shared spaces."

The group painting session will be followed by a performance by Soul Food Cypher — “a collective that utilizes the craft of freestyle lyricism to connect individuals to each other through their cypher events and audience participation” — at 1:30 p.m.  Serenbe Playhouse will then perform selections from “Hair,” part of its 10th anniversary season.

At 3:30,  artists will speak about their Beltline murals with participants.
