The 12th annual AJC Decatur Book Festival turns the spotlight on the importance of journalism in the current climate of protests, social media and fake news. The keynote event, which takes place Sept. 1 at Emory’s Schwartz Center, features NPR host Brooke Gladstone, New York Times editor Carolyn Ryan and Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery in a conversation about the media, moderated by AJC editor Kevin Riley.

But there’s lighter fare, too, including a Kidnote event with “Happy Days” actor Henry Winkler, who will talk about his “Here’s Hank” series of children’s books Sept. 1 at Decatur High School Performing Arts Center.

And then of course there's the festival, which brings 600 authors to 18 stages around the Decatur Square Sept. 2-3. For a complete schedule of events, to go www.decaturbookfestival.com.
