Ryla, one of Georgia's biggest call centers, is hiring 1,500 temporary customer service positions at its Kennesaw office, the company said.
The eight-week jobs would start immediately, the company said.
The jobs are full-time and pay roughly $10 an hour, a company spokeswoman said.
Workers will be taking phone calls from employees who are enrolling in health benefits at another company, a spokeswoman said. The company is not based in Atlanta, the spokeswoman said.
Ryla does not give the names of its corporate clients. The company does work for Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and non-profit groups.
Some of the temporary positions could lead to full-time jobs -- if permanent positions are available and the person is the right fit, Ryla's co-founder and Chief Operations Officer Shelly Wilson said in a statement.
"In this economic environment, contact center positions also provide an excellent job opportunity for people looking for supplemental seasonal income and other who want to hone their customer service skills," Wilson said Monday.
The company is having job fairs at the Turner Chapel AME Church of Marietta every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday starting this week through Dec. 3, the company said.
While Ryla's announcement indicates that seasonal work is available, the state continues to report heavy job losses. Last week, the Georgia Department of Labor reported a 10.1 percent unemployment rate for September, marking the 23rd consecutive month that Georgia's jobless rate has been higher than the national average.
Ryla, however, earlier this year boasted a net increase of 810 jobs. The company, which started in 2001, won't divulge names of corporate clients. Previously, though, the company handled calls for EarthLink, IBM, LexisNexis, AT&T and the Georgia Lottery.
