After a package exploded at a FedEx facility in Texas early Tuesday morning, Sandy Springs-based UPS said it is "cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation."
“We have security measures in place, but we do not discuss them in order to maintain their effectiveness,” UPS said in a written statement.
Authorities suspect the explosion, which slightly injured one worker, is related to four bombings that have occurred in Austin since March 2, according to media reports.
FedEx, which also said it is working closely with law enforcement authorities in their investigation, confirmed that a single package exploded at a sorting facility. One employee was being treated for minor injuries.
According to FedEx, a second package was turned over to law enforcement. FedEx also said it gave law enforcement extensive evidence from its security systems related to the packages and the shipper.
UPS, a global shipping company, handles more than 5 billion packages and documents annually. The company has 374,000 employees in the United States, and has more than 1,800 operating facilities in its package operations.
According to the United States Bomb Data Center, there were 969 suspicious package incidents in 2016. That was down from 1,739 in 2015.
