Delta offers discounts for Clear screening

As travelers continue to look for ways to get around long security waits, Delta Air Lines has outlined discounted prices for its frequent fliers to buy Clear memberships to get through security lines faster.

Clear, a private company, uses biometric identification technology for faster document checking and offers priority lines to “breeze past the long lines.”

The Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program offers its own priority lanes and expedited screening.

Clear’s regular membership price is significantly higher, at $179 annually, compared with $85 for five years of TSA PreCheck. Delta says its SkyMiles members can get an annual Clear membership for $99.

Elite frequent fliers at the platinum, gold and silver SkyMiles Medallion levels can get annual Clear memberships for $79, while Clear enrollment will be complimentary for Delta’s diamond-level members.

Clear’s name may be familiar to some travelers, because a previous company launched Clear registered traveler security lines in 2005, but that service failed in 2009.

The new version of Clear is run by a different company.

Clear is now at 13 U.S. airports, including Orlando, Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston Hobby and Bush Intercontinental, Las Vegas, San Francisco and others.

Delta said last week it plans to share more details later in the summer about additional Clear airport locations.
