Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson has taken the helm of an international airline group’s board of governors.

Anderson was selected last year for a one-year term as chairman of the International Air Transport Association, and he stepped into the role Tuesday at the group’s summit in Cape Town.

The association’s top priorities are a global environmental agreement, plans to improve safety in Africa and air fare sales technology across multiple platforms, according to a written statement from the group’s director general and CEO Tony Tyler.

Anderson previously served as chairman of the Air Transport Association, a major U.S. airline industry lobbying group.
