Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy reaffirmed his commitment to “biblical families” in a weekend interview with WXIA-TV that aired Wednesday.

In a brief exchange with the station last Saturday, Cathy avoided questions about the impact remarks he made this past summer on gay marriage have had on the company he leads.

Instead, he told the station that the Atlanta company is committed to families, saying “[Families are] very important to all of us that are concerned about being able to hang onto the heritage that we have. And we support biblical families. We have always been a part of that.”

Cathy has shunned interviews since making comments to an online website and radio program that were widely considered to oppose gay marriage. In August, supporters of Cathy’s stance and advocates of free speech turned out for a Chick-fil-A “Appreciation Day” that broke the company’s one-day sales record. Those favoring marriage equality also rallied with a nationwide “Kiss In” at Chick-fil-A locations, though attendance was smaller.
