When people are very sick, they want to be treated by a doctor they’re comfortable with, preferably in an environment they know. Usually that means at an office or in a hospital near their home.

But they also want the most expert care they can get. Sometimes it’s hard to get that from the doctor you know, or nearby.

Hospital systems around the country have come up with a way to deliver both to their patients, especially when it comes to the most complex forms of medical care when treating cancer and heart disease.

They are forming different types of partnerships that effectively bring best practices home so that people won’t have to travel to take advantage of those services.

Atlanta hospital systems are no stranger to this trend, and the partners they’re affiliating with are big name players in health care.

Find out who’s partnering up and what it means to health care consumers in a story this Sunday at Myajc.com.
