Addictive Candy Crush Saga game makes ‘divine’ revenue

Are you on a sugar rush from "Candy Crush Saga"? You're not alone, and despite the fact it's free to play, its revenue is "divine."

According to Think Gaming, "Candy Crush" is the most profitable free iOS game. Although King, the company that owns "Candy Crush," doesn't publish its numbers, Think Gaming estimates the game makes more than $860,000 a day and has more than 7.4 million daily active users.

And that's possibly just the tip of the iceberg. Think Gaming only factors profits for the U.S. market and iOS app store. (Via YouTube / skillgaming)

Considering "Candy Crush Saga" is also a top download for Android devices and Facebook and has consistently been one of the "top-5 grossers in 90-100 countries over the past summer and autumn," it's likely the game makes quite a bit more than that $860,000 a day. (Via King.comBGR)

Nonetheless, Daily Mail reports these extremely high figures have "prompted the Office of Fair Trading to voice concern that guidelines are needed to stop firms exploiting young users."

But King says 90 percent of its users are over 21.

The company makes its money through in-app purchases. Players can buy items or extra lives to help them complete levels.

As a user told The Wall Street Journal, sometimes you just give in and pay the buck.

“I did once because I was stuck on this level for ages, and I just thought, ‘If I don’t pay 99 cents, I might be in this place forever.’”

Although some users are stronger than others, King's games guru Tommy Palm says 70 percent of users who've made it to the last level of the game never paid a penny. (Via The Guardian)

Less than a month ago, King announced it filed for a public offering in the U.S., which The New York Times says "promises to be one of the biggest debuts by a gaming company in over a year."
