Steve Harvey told the Hollywood Reporter that he stands by his friend and mentor Bill Cosby despite the dozens of accusations of sexual assault.
Harvey, who still has a place in Atlanta but has moved his many radio & TV obligations to Los Angeles, said he hasn't talked to Cosby for a few months.
"But when I'm your friend, I'm your friend," he said. "And Bill Cosby helped my sons at Morehouse [College], and he taught me how to do this business. He didn't even know me and he taught me how to do this business. When I heard all the trouble he was in, I called and asked him how he was doing. You know what he says to me? "Hey man, I appreciate you calling, but just stay away from me right now. You don’t need none of this on you. You’re doing good. Whatever happens to me, happens to me, but don’t you get none of this on you." That's an amazing thing for a guy to say."
The reporter just asked a single passing question so it wasn't any more than that. He was not asked directly about the accusations against Cosby.
Otherwise, Harvey talked about how Oprah Winfrey gave him great advice about owning his own shows, how he would love to do late night at some point and why his daily talk show (seen at 3 p.m. on Fox 5 locally) is now in Los Angeles and will be more celebrity focused.
He also tackled the Trump backlash, which surprised him, and repeated what he told me in June about the infamous memo. He noted that he writes like he talks and didn't have a clue that all capital letters meant "yelling."
Forbes estimates the married father of seven pulled in a whopping $42.5 million in the past year.
Harvey has moved "Family Feud" and his radio talk show from Atlanta to Los Angeles. His daily talk show had been taped for five years in Chicago before he created a new show on the west coast.
