A decade removed from leaving "The Chappelle Show" and a reported $50 million offer from Comedy Central, the ground-breaking stand-up comic Dave Chappelle has been virtually incognito when it comes to TV.
But he still tours on occasion and returns to the Tabernacle in Atlanta April 17. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m. I expect they'll sell out quickly. (You can buy tickets here for Chappelle.)
UPDATE: 4/13/15: The Friday and Saturday shows are sold out so you'll have to go to a third-party ticket seller for those nights. Limited tickets are still available for Sunday's shows.
He must like the converted church. His last shows in Atlanta were in June, 2013 at the same downtown locale, which can fit more than 2,000 people per show. I expect he'll be adding more dates. That's what he did last time. He ended up doing five sold-out shows in three days in 2013.
Chappelle is certainly popular enough to pull a Kevin Hart and fill Philips Arena. There is enough demand. But he clearly prefers the smaller venue.
You can tell he is popular because he's charging $72 (after fees), which is on the high end for any comic.
Hart, coming to Philips Arena June 2, is charging $55.50 to $169.50 before fees. There are only 300 to 400 level seats left for that show without resorting to Stubhub.
Chappelle left Comedy Central with $10 million in the bank. He told David Letterman in December he didn't need any more money at the time.
