The House and Senate plan to convene late – at 11 a.m., in hopes of sticking to the schedule they set earlier this month. But that could change if the weather turns nastier than expected.
The House has nine bills on its calendar, including the 2016 state budget and H.B. 71, which would require greater transparency from the Pardons and Paroles Board. Also, H.B. 192, which would put new rules in place for the use of purchasing cards by local officials.
The Senate is set to take up three bills: S.B. 88, which would allow employers to pay workers with debit cards; S.B. 94, which aims to improve the accuracy of witness identification; and S.B. 139, which would make sure no local government could ban plastic shopping bags (so don't even think about it, Atlanta).
Thursday is also departure day for Gov. Nathan Deal’s quick field trip to Louisiana, where he hopes to persuade key Georgia lawmakers to support his “Opportunity School District” plan.
