Four Questions with Lakeview Academy coach Matthew Gruhn

GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.

Matthew Gruhn, Lakeview Academy

1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "I have had the opportunity and blessing to begin the football program at Lakeview. I would have to say the very first game. It was a JV game against North Hall. We did not win, but the true joy and passion that everybody in our program displayed was something I will forever cherish."

2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "I certainly would say my dad, Bobby Gruhn, and Phil Jones." [Bobby Gruhn won 254 games as Gainesville's coach from 1963 to 1992. Matthew Gruhn was an assistant under Jones at Winder-Barrow.]

3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "We are what we repeatedly do; therefore, excellence is not an act but a habit."

4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I'm not so sure the padded practices in the summertime are good for our sport and for our kids. I would like to see things implemented that would protect and encourage more multi-sport athletes. It seems to be getting to the point where it is almost impossible for a kid to do multiple sports."
