GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Matt Dickmann, Harrison
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "At Seminole Ridge High School in Florida, it was winning a playoff game with seven seconds left. We were down by three points, and I told the quarterback to get us in field goal range. Instead, he hit the wheel route for a touchdown. The ball was tipped by the safety, and our player caught it after juggling it a few times and stepped in to the end zone for a TD. The video was pretty amazing. At Harrison High School, it would have to be last year's victory over Hillgrove at home. We went for two points to win the game after scoring with about 12 seconds left. It was the first time in school history in football that Harrison beat Hillgrove. The student body and players were ecstatic."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "I have two beautiful daughters and no sons except the ones I coach. If I did have a son, I have a friend named Blair Hubbard out in Colorado who coaches high school football at Lutheran. He is an uncommon man and does things the right way. He teaches the kids about more than just football."
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "I do not tolerate late/tardy people. Always be on time. Quotes: 'Keep company with those that make you better!' And, 'Be uncommon, no excuses, no explanations!'"
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I really do not have a problem with the policies and rules as long as they are enforced. But I do find the wet bulb interesting. In South Florida, there is no wet bulb. I coached there for 25.5 years, and we never had a wet bulb policy or guidelines. But I do think the guidelines are good. We work close with our trainer to follow the guidelines. I wonder if you could even practice with a wet bulb policy in Florida."
