GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Kevin Reach, Collins Hill
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach?"I've had some great memories as a player and a coach, but two games come to mind from my time coaching at Collins Hill. First, in 2010 we played Lowndes in the quarterfinals at their place. It was a great atmosphere, and I don't think anyone gave us a chance. We ended up beating them in overtime. It was one of the greatest high school games I ever saw, and I just happened to be coaching in it. The second one was beating North Gwinnett [in 2013], who at the time was ranked No. 1 in the state and was nationally ranked. Everything just seemed to go right for us that night offensively and defensively."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why?"I think Georgia has some of the finest coaches in the country, but the two that come to mind are [former Clarkston and Loganville coach] Tommy Stringer and [former Dunwoody and Clarkston coach] Roy Sparks. They are two of the finest men I have ever been around. I was fortunate to be able to play and coach with both of these men. They were great mentors and are the main reason I am in this business today. I wanted to be just like them as a young coach."
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto?"My favorite saying comes from the great Vince Lombardi: 'Man's finest hour is the moment he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle ... victorious.' Also, 'To solve big problems, you have to be willing to do unpopular things.' I love these two sayings."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed?"The cut-block rule is too vague for me. I believe you either let them cut in the blocking zone or not cut at all. You are leaving it up to the official to decide what is legal or not. Cut blocks differ from crew to crew. Also, I wouldn't mind adopting the NCAA rule on touchbacks. High school kickers are getting so good these day. I think a touchback should be brought out to the 25-yard line."
