The intersection at Tilly Mill Road and North Peachtree Road is getting an overhaul that should reduce delays and improve chronic backups at the busy crossroads, as well as several of the area's feeder roads.
The project is expected to improve travel times for the residents of nearby neighborhoods, including students of several public schools in the area and nearby Georgia Perimeter College, according to the city of Dunwoody's website.
Turn lanes are being added, in addition to new sidewalks, bike lanes and pedestrian refuge islands. The intersection of North Peachtree Road and Peeler Road also will be incorporated into the project with the addition of a traffic signal that will be synchronized with the signal at Tilly Mill and North Peachtree.
Officials say the project will reduce the average wait time for motorists at both intersections.
The city does not anticipate full-time lane closures will be necessary, however drivers can expect temporary delays while construction is ongoing. One lane could be closed periodically with flag crews helping to direct traffic around active site work.

Work crews have already begun clearing trees and moving utilities to prepare the site for construction. The project is expected to take 14 months and be finished by the spring of 2017.
