Construction continues on I-75 south between Ga. 155 and Ga. 138 for work on the South Metro Express Lanes Project. The 12-mile work area will be done in 2-mile increments, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Starting tonight, drivers should expect heavy congestion until roadwork is completed on Sunday. No daytime closures will occur.

Here’s what to expect when work starts this evening:

I-75 Northbound

One lane will be closed between 9 p.m. and midnight due to barrier wall placement and roadway striping near the Hudson Bridge Road exit. Two lanes will be closed Thursday between midnight and 5 a.m. Expect roadwork to pick back up later that day, from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, and again from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday.

Overhead sign wiring near Exit 216 along Ga. 155 will take place each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Work ends Saturday morning.

Overhead sign wiring and paving between the Jonesboro Road and Hudson Bridge Road exits will take place each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Work ends Sunday morning.

I-75 Southbound

The Ga. 138 on-ramp narrows for overhead sign wiring each night through Saturday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Barrier wall placement and paving along Ga.138 from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Barrier wall placement and paving between mile marker 220 and the Ga. 20/Ga. 81 exit each night through Friday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Drivers are urged to proceed with caution and use alternative routes if they can.
