Construction started this week at the busy intersection of Tilly Mill Road and North Peachtree Road in Dunwoody, the first intersection improvement to be implemented as part of the city's Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

The intersection was labeled a high priority by the city based on community input and the amount of existing traffic congestion.

This intersection manages traffic from five arterial and collector roads of Dunwoody, provides access to and from neighborhoods, and connects to destinations such as Georgia Perimeter College and several area public schools.

The intersection of North Peachtree with Peeler Road is also incorporated into the project. A traffic signal will be added and synchronized with the existing signal at Tilly Mill and North Peachtree. The improvements will reduce the amount of time drivers sit idle at both intersections.

New sidewalks and bike lanes, additional turn lanes and pedestrian refuge islands are also being added as part of the project. "Aesthetically pleasing traffic signal mast arms" will replace the existing signals that are strung on wires, according to the city of Dunwoody.

The work is being performed by C.W. Matthews.
