"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" director Wes Ball penned a heartfelt update following word that the set had been shut down after actor Dylan O'Brien's injury . "He is one tough cookie," Ball said.
The movie is filming in British Columbia. James Dashner, author of the books upon which the dystopian movie series is based, has kept fans updated with his social media posts.
"I just want to let everyone know that yes, Dylan was hurt, but that he’s going to be okay. Not life threatening in any way," he posted on Twitter. "Production is postponed but certainly not cancelled. All that matters now is that Dylan recovers. We love you, Dylan!!!"
It wasn't immediately clear what happened. Trish Knight Chernecki, spokeswoman for the provincial occupational health and safety regulator WorkSafeBC, said an investigation officer has been dispatched to the set to investigate, the Associated Press reported. WorkSafeBC Prevention Officers are on-site at a film set at Cache Creek airport — about 215 miles northeast of Vancouver.
On-set safety issues came into sad focus in Georgia two years ago when camera assistant Sarah Jones died on the set of "Midnight Rider" in Jesup. Director Randall Miller last year reached a plea deal that avoided a trial and absolve his wife and business partner, Jody Savin, in the filming set train wreck that killed Jones.
The 27-year-old Jones died in February 2014 while working on a Jesup film set. A scene in the movie about rocker Gregg Allman was situated on a train trestle where filmmakers did not have permission to be.
