Hallmark has released a commercial featuring Alex, who was born female but identifies as male, just in time for Mother's Day. The ad, hash-tagged #putyourhearttopaper, features a surprise mother-child reunion with Alex's mom, Pam, at the end.
"I've never felt home in my body. Even though I was born a girl, I've always felt like I was a boy," Alex says in the ad. "I was afraid to tell her because I thought love would have conditions. The unconditional love that she's shown has made me a better person in all of my relationships."

Unbeknownst to Alex, Pam was watching the interview, and the two tearfully embrace.
"I'm your mama bear and you're my cub," Pam says. "Always. I love you."
