Chickens? Check. Bees? Working on it.

You've got the backyard chicken thing down pat. Now you want to be sure you're doing the right thing by your beehive. Join Homestead Atlanta for "Beekeeping 102: Caring for Your Hive." The bees did fine all spring and summer, but what do you do now that winter is coming? Veronique Perrot is a biologist and science writer with a PhD in Evolutionary Biology who teaches about bees and attracting pollinators, among many other things. She'll lead this workshop that will help you make sure your bees have a good winter and are ready to make more honey for you next spring. $25 for members of The Homestead Atlanta or Wylde Center. $35 for non-members. 10 a.m. – noon. Time for the 5th Annual Brookhaven Chili Cook Off. More than 75 restaurant and amateur teams are competing for $2,500 in prizes. Come sample chili, Brunswick stew and all the accompaniments and vote for your favorites. There'll be live music on the big stage, chili vendors in chili pepper hats and a "kid zone" for the kids 12 and under who get in free. Learn Korean Cooking from a Comic Book Author

Robin Ha, author and illustrator of "Cook Korean! A Comic Book with Recipes", has created a widely praised cookbook that uses recipe-cartoons to lay out the fundamentals of Korean cooking from kimchi to bibimbap. The World Affairs Council of Atlanta is bringing her to The Cooking School at Irwin Street where she'll do a cooking demo, serve Korean snacks including soju and autograph her book. $10 for Council members, $20 for non-members. 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Monday, October 10. Your Own Mushroom Farm?

Each month, Lynn Pugh of Cane Creek Farm offers a "Lunch N' Learn" session on organic gardening. For October, she's teaching a class on growing shiitake mushrooms. You'll enjoy lunch while you learn about edible mushrooms. If it's October, it's time for Taste of Atlanta. This year the three-day festival features 90 Atlanta restaurants, chefs on four live demo stages and craft beer, wine and creative cocktail sampling for VIP patrons. Home cooks will get coached by local chefs in The Kitchen Workshop. Atlanta's top chefs will teach classes in brunch, heritage cuisine and family meals at The Chef's Table. And the city's top bartenders will compete for Best Bartender in the Barcraft Competition. $65 Friday night party general admission. $80 Friday night VIP. $25 per day general admission, Saturday and Sunday. $75 per day VIP Grand Tasting for Saturday and Sunday. Five Chefs. Five Pigs. Lots of Food and Drink.

Cochon555 lands in Atlanta this year on October 30. Five chefs – Terry Koval , Nick Melvin, Hector Santiago, Kevin Rathbun and Ford Fry – are each leading a team that will take on cooking a 180-200 pound heritage breed pig and compete to be named "BBQ King." Eight more chefs – Todd Mussman, Suzanne Vizethann, Stuart Tracy, Chad Clevender, Drew Van Leuvan, Zeb Stevenson, Todd Richards and Mike Perez – are taking on "One Global Bite" and preparing heritage pork in traditions ranging from Italian to Southern. There'll be farmhouse cheeses to sample, a Pop-up Pie Shop and tastings of bourbon and rum along with wines from around the world. $100 general admission, $150 early admission VIP tickets. 3 p.m. for VIPs, 4 p.m. general admission.
