For the third year in a row, a Georgia restaurant has graced the top spot in a ranking of the South’s best places for barbecue.
Southern Soul Barbecue on St. Simons Island was once again named the best Southern spot for barbecue on Southern Living's South's Best 2019 rankings.
This is a repeat winner for good reason; Georgia-style pulled pork and tangy Brunswick stew, ribs, and smoked chicken wings, cooked on hardwood-fired pits. It's all served a few miles from the ocean in a converted 1940s-era gas station with a laid-back coastal vibe and craft brews on tap—the ideal spot for a sunny afternoon," the publication notes.
Atlanta’s Fox Bros. BBQ also made the list at No. 6, while chef Hugh Acheson, who owns local spots including Empire State South and Five & Ten, was ranked No. 7 on the list of the South’s best chefs.
The annual South’s Best lists rank the best bars, BBQ joints, breweries, cities, hotels, inns, islands, museums, resorts, restaurants, shops, small towns and tailgates as voted on by Southern Living readers.
