Today while I was driving, I thought I was listening to the latest rendition of Pharrell William’s “Happy” song, but just before I switched the dial, I heard “Diet Coke.” Intrigued, I listened a few more measures, to learn that yes, this was indeed a gimmick-y jingle.
Apparently I wasn’t the only one fooled:
The new Diet Coke ad is called "Just for the Taste of It" written and sung by "Kill the Alarm." It seems to employ many of the happy beats that William's 160 BPM song includes.
It reminds me of some of the other catchy songs about high fructose corn syrup, er, I mean soda. I mean, where’s the “kale juice” song?
I think of the Fanta song. “Wanta Fanta, Don’t cha wanta Fanta!”
Or the full-length song "Open Happiness." Although this one doesn't include the soda, it just became branded with Coca Cola, who's slogan was "Open Happiness."
What do you think about these songs? Catchy or annoying?
I think we can agree that we've come a long way since the Dr. Pepper song of the 70's.
