DISH OF THE WEEK: Simple Pleasure Found in Sandwich Near Georgia Tech

In a world saturated with Buffalo chicken, the Jessica sandwich at Rocky Mountain Pizza Company stands out. Why? Mostly, because it doesn’t try too hard.
The Jessica sandwich features diced chicken tossed in your choice of Buffalo wing sauce, topped with a generous handful of iceberg lettuce, melted cheddar and provolone cheese, served on a ciabatta bun. It’s simple, meant to be enjoyed with tater tots, a beer and a game on TV.
Rocky Mountain Pizza Company is the famous, or maybe notorious, restaurant at the intersection of 10th Street and Hemphill Avenue, where Georgia Tech students, trivia players and Philadelphia Eagles fans have enjoyed cheap eats and drinks for years. Rocky Mountain and the Jessica both work for the same reasons: simplicity, low prices and eschewing trendiness for consistency.
The ciabatta roll has a firm crust and soft interior; it’s the first element that hints the Jessica is a sandwich worth taking seriously. Crisp iceberg offsets the richness of multiple cheeses that melt nicely into the chicken chunks that make the Jessica easier to eat than typical chicken sandwich that uses a whole breast.
At $7.99 for the sandwich and a side, you’ll have money left over for more beer. While this column is called “Dish of the Week,” a full pint of Guinness priced at $4.50 might be one of the best daily drink deals in town.
