Buy these three things you need for the best summer drinks

Time to freshen up that drinks cart. New barware, new wine to share with your friends, new shot glasses that will enhance your appreciation of tequila.

Elegant retro barware

For almost 20 years, City Issue has been your stop for everything mid-century. Everywhere you look in this Inman Park shop, you find pristine vintage furniture, art and home accessories. But what caught our eye was their barware. Punch sets and cocktail shakers, ice buckets and decanters, and more sets of cocktail glasses from highball to Collins to champagne coupes than you could possibly have shelves for. Everything’s in perfect condition. If you love it, you should buy it since they may never find a silver rim punch set with 12 cups again. Prices range from $36 for a 1950s cocktail shaker with recipes to $375 for a large staved teak ice bucket by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk, c. 1960. In May, Ponce City Market’s City Winery released the first wine from its 2016 crush. “Gone with the Vin” was made from Vidal Blanc grapes grown at Three Sisters Vineyard in Dahlonega. The grapes were flash frozen to produce a wine with a concentrated sweetness, like an ice wine. Sip this one by itself as a sweet finish to dinner, or pair it with creamy desserts. The sweet apricot aroma is almost dessert itself. The wine would be delicious with an assortment of cheese and nuts. Gone with the Vin is just one of the wines coming from the 2016 harvest. Be on the lookout for Sip & See Sauvignon Blanc as well as a Sangiovese and Malbec to come soon. $25 for a 375 ml bottle. Himalayan salt cups

Really? Drink out of a glass made of salt? Trust us. You should try this. Root7 sells four Himalayan salt shot glasses and an acacia wood serving board. The glasses are translucent pink. Very pretty. Put the shot glasses in your freezer for a few hours, then when your guests arrive, set the glasses out on the serving board. Fill them with your best tequila and offer a wedge of lime if you wish. There’s something about the salt – we wish we knew what – that mellows out that tequila. No more fiery finish. Just smoothness. It works with cachaça and Bloody Marys, too. We’re going to try ours with margaritas next. It’s a good thing it only holds a shot since if you leave liquid in the glasses too long, it will turn salty. So drink up. The salt holds its chill for a long time, so you can fill and repeat. When you’re done, just rinse the glasses (which washes away just a tiny layer of salt), dry them and put them back in the freezer, ready to use another day. $35 for the boxed set of four glasses and serving board.
