Decatur got its own izakaya over the weekend.

Brush Sushi Izakaya, which was on our list of hotly anticipated 2016 restaurant openings , opened its doors at 316 Church St. on Saturday. The Japanese gastropub is the result of a partnership between former Craft Izakaya sushi chef Jason Liang, the former chef at Craft Izakaya in Krog Street Market and John Chen, who operates several bars in Athens and Atlanta.

Brush's menu says the restaurant will offer "authentic quality Japan pub fare and unparalleled detailed chef driven sushi." Liang is sourcing his seafood, chicken and pork primarily from Georgia.

Menu items include kushikatsu, fried skewers with meat, fish or veggies; items from the robata charcoal grill and a variety of sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi. The restaurant will also offer omakase, a piece-by-piece tasting at the sushi bar, for $78-128 per person.

In addition, Brush will feature a full bar and beverage program managed by Jeff Banks, the former lead bartender at The Luminary in Krog Street Market .
