This week, and weekend, and on into Monday brings a bunch of beer events to metro Atlanta.

Moos & Brews at 5 Seasons

Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA) and 5 Seasons Brewing present, Moos & Brews, a very special beer and cheese tasting event, from 6- 9 p.m. tonight at 5 Seasons Westside.

Brewer Crawford Moran and chef David Larkworthy of 5 Seasons will be showcasing their award-winning craft beers (including some exclusive cellar selections) with a variety of local artisanal cheeses.

Special guests include Julie Schoen of Southern Aged (formerly Nature’s Harmony) and Robin Schick of CalyRoad Creamery, as well as  Dr. John Isenhour from the Michael A. Leven School of Culinary Sustainability and Hospitality at Kennesaw State University.

Bierschnaps at Independent Distilling

From noon-5 p.m. Dec. 17, Independent Distilling Company (IDC) in Decatur, in collaboration with their neighbors at Three Taverns Brewery, will release Georgia’s first Bierschnaps, a traditional German spirit made by distilling beer.

In this case, the beer was Three Tavern’s 2014 Feest Noel Christmas Ale that was made from 100 percent malted barley with Belgian dark candy sugar, and spiced with cardamom, allspice and cloves.

This one-of-a-kind offering is being released as part of IDC’s Outlier series of experimental and limited edition products. $50, includes tour, tasting and souvenir bottle.

Helm’s Deep at Three Taverns

At 11:30 a.m. Dec. 17, Three Taverns in Decatur celebrates the brewery-exclusive bottle release of Helm’s Deep, a 13-percent Imperial Stout aged in 8-year-old bourbon barrels.

HD recently won the First Place People’s Choice at The Strong Beer Fest at then Wrecking Bar, and the first run was extremely limited, In fact, presale tickets are already sold out. But a first taste of the 2017 DBA Helm’s Deep will be available at the brewery, along with limited release wild ales and other special beers.

$20 at the door, includes the 1 token per beer offering and standard tasting room glass, plus special to-go bottle tour options, including Inceptus and Heavy Bells.

Gravitational Wave at Wild Heaven

From 12-2pm. Dec. 17, is Wild Heaven’s first ever “brewery only” release — billed as the biggest beer it’s ever made. Gravitational Wave is a Russian Imperial Stout with Smoked Cocoa Nibs and Raspberries, that will not be released to general retail.

Saturday tours at the Avondale brewery will also include a special bonus of free samples of a first ever double IPA, and head brewer Jake Adams will be on hand to discuss Gravitational Wave.

The $32 Gravitational Wave Tour includes two 750-mL bottles: One bottle conditioned for 9 months and one aged in McCallan Scotch barrels for six months before 3 months of bottle conditioning.

Creature Comforts at Saltyard

From 5-8 p.m. Dec. 19, Saltyard is hosting a philanthropic happy hour where chef Nick Leahy will pair his delicious small plates with some of Creature Comforts most popular and limited beers, including Emergence, Reclaimed Rise, Koko Buni, Mutualism, Transmission and Tropicalia.

Guests will enjoy an interactive experience in Saltyard's bar area that is designed to highlight the notes in each Creature Comforts brew via a "tasting station" approach, where appropriately paired cuisine will be offered with its featured beer companion.

Tickets $35 at the door. Space is limited, so arrive early, or purchase tickets in advance by calling Saltyard. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Amplify My Community.
