With the iOS 8.3 update came a slew of new emojis for iPhone owners to use to communicate when words don’t suffice.
The big news is that the emoji keyboard is now as diverse as ever according to CNN. Where the default emoji people were once white, they are now yellow, not unlike the Simpsons or Lego people. What's more, there are a range of skin colors to choose from when picking from people emojis. There is even an emoji black Santa.
Same-sex couples and same-sex couples with kids also made their debut on the emoji keyboard. However, family emojis still come only in one color, much to the despair of those who hoped that emoji’s diversification update would include mixed-race families.
Among the other 300 new emojis are updates to emoji bodyparts as well as new country flags and sports emojis.
Petitions to add a redhead emoji as well as a taco were ignored. For those Austinites in need of an everyday Taco emoji, consider downloading Austin-based app Taco Text.
