Cold temperatures are expected to return next week, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Currently, it’s 63 degrees in Atlanta, which earlier reached a high of 71 — one degree shy of the forecast high of 72.

The higher temps also had another effect: higher pollen levels.

The city’s pollen count was 361 particles per cubic meter of air, up from Thursday’s count of 23, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma.

The good news is Friday's pollen count does not touch last year's season high of 3,559, or the 2017 season high of 4,107.

And rain in Saturday’s forecast should keep pollen levels low. There is a 60 percent chance of early morning showers that should taper off by noon, Channel 2 reported.

“It's not going to be dry all weekend,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said, “but it is going to be dry most of the weekend.”

And it’s going to be warm, he said. According to the latest forecast, Atlanta could see a high of 73 degrees Saturday and Sunday.

The average high for this time of year is 65 degrees, Channel 2 reported.

But those warm temps could change by Wednesday, when near-freezing temperatures are expected, Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

The forecast high for that day is 54, but “that may be optimistic,” he said.
