The heat is among us, metro Atlanta.

There have already been 31 days with temperatures in the 90s in 2016, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. That is not a record. At this point in 2011, there had been 39 days with temperatures in the 90s.

However, the metro area has seen more 90-degree days this year than last year. By mid-July 2015, there had been 18 days of temperatures in the 90s, Monahan said.

Dry weather has led to drought conditions in metro Atlanta, Gainesville, Rome and Calhoun. Despite frequent rainfall the last few days, Monahan said the region has been "dealing with drought conditions really since the beginning of the month of March.

“The soil’s so dry, it actually means temperatures get hotter.”

Metro Atlanta finished 2015 with 49 days of 90-degree temperatures and is on pace to surpass that this year.
