Enjoy a sunny start to your Sunday, before showers and storms arrive in the afternoon.

“As we head into Sunday afternoon there will be another round of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms,” said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.

Saturday was relatively calm after Friday’s storms that rocked parts of metro Atlanta, causing fallen trees, traffic headaches and power outages. Late afternoon showers drenched parts of metro Atlanta while temps were in the upper 80s, Nitz said.

Storms on Friday caused power lines and trees to fall, including one tree that fell between two houses in the 6300 block of Kimberly Mill Road in College Park.

“The tree was uprooted out of the ground,” said Lynell Watts, who lives in the area. “It appeared that there was a mini tornado that knocked it over.” He said another tree blocked the fallen tree from landing on the houses.

Sunday’s high is expected in the mid-80s and a low of 70, Nitz said.

Monday’s forecast is for partly cloudy skies with scattered storms with a high in the mid-80s and a low of 68, Nitz said.
