Get to Charleston before airfares double

Getting to one of the most beloved weekend destinations from Atlanta will double in price starting in early December.

AirTran found it tough to fill seats during the week between Atlanta and Charleston, S.C. and made a recent decision to end flight services between these two cities after the last flights (two daily nonstops) on Dec. 3.

On Dec. 4, Delta will jack up its airfares to levels around $200 round-trip (with a 21-day advance notice of travel).

So, go now to beautiful Charleston and enjoy a getaway filled with history, nature and romance.

AirTran is currently running a systemwide sale which includes $54 one-way rates to Charleston. This rate is valid Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with other days of the week priced at $64 each way.

Give at least a 10-day advance notice of travel. Buy tickets through Nov. 10.

Did you know that Charleston was named the No. 2 Top American Destination for the 17th consecutive year by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine? Charleston was topped only by San Francisco. This ranking maintains Charleston's spot as the No. 1 East Coast destination.

Package up the savings on autumn and early winter stays at a number of hotels, resorts and condos in the greater Charleston area.

One special value comes from the King Charles Inn, perfectly located on Meeting Street. A "Romantic Celebration" package, priced from $199 a night, includes beautiful accommodations, tickets for a group horse-drawn carriage tour through the historic district, champagne and chocolates upon arrival, manager's reception each evening, breakfast buffet for two and complimentary parking. It's valid most nights through Dec. 31.
