The Memphis Zoo announced the birth of a baby giraffe this week.

Wakati was born around 7:30 a.m. on July 12.

“We are thrilled to welcome Wakati to our giraffe family, as we’ve been waiting a while for this new baby,” shared Courtney Janney, area curator. “Wakati means ‘time’ in Swahili, and we felt it was a good fit for our new arrival.”

Wakati is the second giraffe to be born at the zoo in the last few months. Bogey was born on April 3.
