Technical director Carlos Bocanegra said on Friday that Atlanta United has a short list of coaching candidates and that one could be hired very soon.

Bocanegra was asked during the introduction of player Hector Villalba if signing players — the team has six so far— would affect the coaching search.

Bocanegra said whatever coach is hired would be able to incorporate the players into his system.

The MLS expansion club will start play in 2017.

There has been lots of speculation but no candidates emerge for the position.

Club president Darren Eales has said several times in the past that they hoped to hire a coach by the end of summer. If the coach doesn’t have MLS experience, his assistant coaches must.
