The Westminster Schools boys team on Monday won the state championship in golf for the fourth time in fifth years. The Atlanta private school finished with 305 strokes, edging out Morgan County (308) and Lovett (311) for the team title in the Class AA tournament.

"We've been on a nice little roll," Westminster coach James Perry said. "The one thing we're most excited about is that we're not losing anybody. We have one junior on the team this year. We're the youngest team I've coached here to accomplish things like this."

Westminster sophomore Tripp H'Doubler won medalist honors for the second year in a row, finishing with an even-par 72 and edging out Lovett's Mike Keough in a one-hole playoff.

"He's amazing; a very heady player who has the tendency to come and play his best when it matters the most," Perry said.

In the Class AA girls competition, Greater Atlanta Christian's Emee Herbert won medalist honors with a 73, while her team scored 164 to finish second overall to Vidalia. Last year, it was the reverse, with Herbert the runner-up for medalist honors on a state championship squad.

"Emee played exceptionally well on a difficult golf course and has really carried our team all season," GAC coach Daniel Cline said.
