The 17-year-old football player accused of yanking off an opponent's helmet and beating him with it will face charges in the attack.
The teen, Adam Chumley, of Acworth, will be charged with misdemeanor battery, Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the AJC.
Friday night, Loganville Christian Academy hosted Northside Christian Academy, from Woodstock, and was up 33-0 at the time of the assault, with more than 7 minutes remaining in the first half.
After the fifth touchdown was scored, Chumley, who plays for NCA, grabbed the helmet of LCA player Jarrett Briscoe and began hitting him with it. The Northside team forfeited the game.
Briscoe suffered headaches and nausea following the assault, according to the school's athletic page on Facebook.
"He's still shaken up that anyone would be so severe on the field," Briscoe's mother posted online. "He's never seen, much less experienced, anything like it."
Chapman told the AJC the incident and the charges could have been much more serious.
"He probably could've been charged with aggravated assault," Chapman said. "The (victim's) mother really didn't want that to happen."
Chapman said the case is the first like it he can remember in Walton County.
