Scot Sloan, Riverside Military's head coach for one season, has returned to college football to become an assistant at Appalachian State.

Sloan had coached in college at Clemson and Georgia Southern before coming to Riverside, a military school in Gainesville. He had been an assistant to Chris Lancaster before becoming a head coach last season. Riverside was 5-6.

Sloan is expected to coach defensive backs at Appalachian State, the Division I-AA school perhaps best known for its upset of Michigan in 2007 and national titles in 2005, '06 and '07.
