The resignation of Milton’s Adam Clack was the big news last week in offseason high school football coaching changes, but a few other schools and coaches made announcements that brought the total of offseason openings to 47. Twenty-two have been filled.

Among the more prominent unfilled jobs are at Pace Academy, Rabun County, Tucker, Washington County and Westlake.

Seckinger, a new school in Gwinnett County, is expected to make a hire this month.

The most attractive opening is probably the one at Milton, a Class 7A power in north Fulton County. Clack departed after a five-year run in which the Eagles won four region titles and one state championship while compiling a 54-12 record. Clack is pursuing other coaching opportunities.

Harris County’s Jamie Fox retired Friday. His Tigers teams improved in each of his four seasons as head coach. Harris County was 7-5 in 2021. Fox had been Harris County’s offensive coordinator for six seasons prior. He also was a head coach at alma mater Shaw and worked several years for Columbus teams.

White County hired Gainesville offensive coordinator Chad Bennett to replace Tim Cokely, who retired. Bennett was White County’s offense coordinator from 2017 to 2020.

Stratford Academy in Macon promoted offensive coordinator Chance Jones to replace Mark Farriba, who retired as coach and remained as athletic director. Jones is a former head coach at Tattnall Square and assistant at Prince Avenue Christian when Farriba was the coach. Stratford will be leaving the GHSA in 2022-23 for the Georgia Independent School Association.

Turner County’s Kevious Johnson has stepped down after two seasons. His 2021 team reached the Class A Public quarterfinals.

Former Pace Academy coach Chris Slade is headed back home. Virginia, his college alma mater, announced his hiring as a defensive assistant last week.

Here are 47 openings among GHSA schools with their former coaches and their hires if there has been one.
