Kelton Hill’s on-again, off-again quarterback situation is on again at Georgia State.
Hill will be given a chance at quarterback, coach Trent Miles said.
“He knows … if he’s not the starter he’s got to go play somewhere else,” he said. “He knows, and I’ve told him, this will always be a team-before-self program. I’m not going to have talented guys standing around. If he can be the starter, that’s great. If he can’t he can help us at some other position. He’s too good of an athlete to be sitting around.”
Hill played quarterback his first two years at Georgia State. He was beaten by Ben McLane for the job last year, and moved to defensive back after the season’s first game. He then moved again to wide receiver, where he played the rest of the year.
Bruce Dukes
Bruce Dukes, a former standout at Sandy Creek, is transferring from Central Florida to Georgia State.
The defensive back will have to sit out a year, per NCAA rules.
Dukes played in eight games in 2012. He helped Sandy Creek win consecutive state titles.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hogan leaving
Mark Hogan, the first signee in Georgia State’s history, is transferring this summer to North Carolina-Charlotte to pursue graduate school studies. He is going to play football there.
Hogan will play baseball for Georgia State this spring and will finish his second degree. UNCC is 20 minutes from his parents' home.
Etc.
Georgia State’s spring game will be at the Georgia Dome on April 20. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. and admission will be free. ... Miles said he is close to hiring the final assistant coach to round out the staff. He is still interviewing candidates.
