Quarterback Justin Thomas

He gave his favorite play since he arrived at Georgia Tech, a 25-yard run in this year’s spring practice:

A straight quarterback run, the “11-12” as Thomas calls it in shorthand, is keyed by reading how the defense plays over the left guard. “It’s quicker than an end read, so we have to make quicker decisions,” Thomas said. In this play, the defensive line slanted inside, so Thomas broke the run outside. The backside pursuit had no chance to catch him, given that Thomas arguably is the quickest player on the team. “If (the play) blocks right, most of the time it hits,” Thomas said. He didn’t quite score on the play, brought down by the safety just short of the goal line. “But we got it in a couple plays later, running the same play to the other side,” Thomas said.
