Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman’s recovery from a sprained right right wrist stalled on Sunday so he was out of the lineup for the fourth consecutive game.
Freeman unsuccessfully tried to take some swings before the game. He was scheduled to be examined by hand specialist Gary M. Lourie later in the day.
“He tried to dry swing and he couldn’t dry swing,” Braves manager Freddie Gonzalez said. “He will get it checked again by Dr. Lourie and hopefully it will be better. We’ve got the off day tomorrow, maybe (Lourie) will re-check it (then) but there hasn’t been any change.”
Freeman and Gonzalez have said the slugger won’t be going on the 15-day disabled list.
Freeman suffered the injury when he took an awkward swing during a game at the Mets two weekends ago. He played with the injury for the next four days but had to leave the lineup during Wednesday’s game and got the injection that night. The Braves were hoping he’d be ready to play 48-72 hours later.
Freeman had his consecutive games streak snapped at 234 games. It had been the longest active streak in the majors.
Freeman, a two-time All-Star, is batting .299 and leads the team with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and a .520 slugging percentage.
