Many who rally to protect fetus oppose live-saving around virus

It boggles the mind -- and the heart -- that so many Texans (and so-called pro-lifers in other states) can passionately rally to protect a 6-week-old fetus but care so little about the health and well-being of real children (and adults) that they fiercely oppose life-saving COVID vaccination and masks. They want to protect that fetus at all costs but care little for the resulting baby or its family.

Stand alongside Taiwan, a partner to the U.S. and Georgia

Three symbols of Atlanta’s global connection swim around a massive aquatic tank inside the Georgia Aquarium. These majestic whale sharks are adored by the aquarium’s visitors.

Unfortunately, their home, the island nation of Taiwan, has not been treated with the same adoration within the international community. Today that must change. Taiwan should be inducted as a full member of the United Nations.

Taiwan has been a productive partner to the United States and Georgia. For example, during the pandemic, Taiwan donated literal tons of PPE for healthcare workers in the state. Locally, the Taiwanese community is active economically, politically, and academically and contributes to this great city’s diversity of experience and thought.

This symbiotic relationship makes it even more regrettable that China is bullying Taiwan and its allies. The UN’s lack of acknowledgment represses the representative freedoms of 23 million people.

Join me in giving a voice for Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations.

Those digging in to oppose vaccine act like children

Picture a bratty six-year-old with their arms crossed, chin drawn into their chest, pouting, and stating emphatically, “No. I don’t want to!”

This is how I think of the many, many cranks who won’t get vaccinated, who won’t even wear a mask. They don’t care that they are endangering other people. They aren’t even thinking about their well-being. They’re just digging in obstinately.

This is the result of toxic individuality (extreme narcissism), often abetted by stupidity.

If the power elites hadn’t let the country down so badly over the last several decades, these narcissists would still be relegated to “crazy uncle” status.

Cover resisting arrest on your pages like you do COVID

Over the past several days, the AJC has had front-page reports on “Why I’m Vaccinated.” This proactive use of the front page is intended to improve residents’ health, safety, and security in the Atlanta area.

But where is the AJC on the Atlanta-area endemic problem of resisting arrest? The AJC should have published stories about the negative impact of people resisting arrest, just as it has reported on the negative impact of people not being vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

Resisting a proper arrest is clearly foolish, unlawful and dangerous. Everyone arrested will be given their day in court in front of an impartial judge.

Do not resist arrest.

This is a message the AJC has failed to deliver.

Wise to question independent contractors about vaccination status

Biden’s speech said a lot, but it did not mention independent contractors like plumbers, carpenters, electricians, and others who work in people’s homes when they have problems.

Therefore, it would be wise to either question the person you are hiring for things around the house or to hire larger firms to do the work, firms that have to have their workers vaccinated.
