A video posted to Facebook that appears to show a group of animal rights activists ripping a puppy from a homeless man's arms has fired up viewers online.

According to Buzzfeed, a man named Nghi Le Duc posted the video last week and claimed that he was "shocked" to see two members of the animal rights group Cause Animale Nord snatch a puppy from a man who said he was homeless. The two are seen passing the crying puppy to another person, who runs away.

In the video description, the man wrote that the three took the puppy "violently" and "without pity" from the homeless man, who cried.

The group claims that the puppy appeared to be drugged and disoriented and that the man was using the puppy for begging. The group named the dog Vegan and has put it up for adoption.

"We intervened because it was urgent for the animal," the group said, according to French newspaper La Voix Du Nord. "It is very easy to turn images of context or some about to attack and defame."

The homeless man claims he has the papers to prove the dog belongs to him. Cause Animale Nord believes the records were altered.

The video has been seen more than 2 million times on Facebook. A Change.org petition has been started to investigate the animal rights group.
